Special education programs concern children who present with specific learning difficulties (ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, etc.), speech and language disorders, intellectual disability, emotional disorders, multisensory disabilities, hearing or vision problems, autism, with traumatic disabilities and other serious health problems.
Special Educators are active in the social and psycho-emotional development of the child's personality, in the acquisition of self-confidence and social acceptance, in the improvement of abilities and skills, in order to enable their reintegration into the social educational system, coexistence with the community and their professional guidance.
Special programs are developed by special educators, identifying specific goals according to the needs and capabilities of each child. The ages at which the Special Educator usually intervenes are as soon as the child starts elementary school and can design programs even for teenagers.
However, the Special Education Teacher is also able to design educational programs that operate preventively, utilizing the potential of each student, whether there are specific learning difficulties or not.
